Dr. Oladotun Omosebi (DOT for short) is an experienced software developer, systems architect and researcher, whose 3-decade-long career has spanned various industries, including telecommunications, banking-software consultancy, university lecturer, cutting-edge research, and AI innovation.
He holds a PhD in Computing, specialising in intelligent autonomous data aggregation for smart edge devices, focusing on Intelligence. He has worked in various software development projects, distributed across desktop, web, mobile and cloud systems.
As Systems Design Engineer in the telecoms industry, he managed the analysis and design of large enterprise systems serving over a hundred million subscribers. He coordinated with vendors from top world-wide service providers, major banks and payment systems. The role of systems design engineer formed a major bedrock of his systems thinking and provides an immediate reference point for future endeavours.
As University Lecturer, he taught undergraduates in various subjects from Java, ASP.NET, JavaScript, and Python, to 3D modelling and games development using Unity 3D. He managed inter-departmental teams working on emerging technologies, such as the Microsoft HoloLens, for research into important various interesting human-interface problems.
In his research, he investigated potentials for devices on the edge (e.g. smartphones and driverless cars) to autonomously collaborate by aggregating data locally and determining optimal methods for communication and solving data intensive tasks.
His important areas at the moment include design and development in the area of the cloud, and machine learning models for Computer Vision and Data Visualisation using tools such as Python, TensorFlow and Keras.
Spanning over three decades, he has worked in the following areas:
- Enterprise middleware & e-payment platforms at MTN Communications, leading end-to-end integrations with major banks
- Cloud-native solutions: Worked with various platforms (C#.NET, Java, Python) and managed deployments on Azure, AWS and Docker pipelines
- Development of mobile & WebGL/GIS applications:Â Developed and shipped Unity 3D games, and created AR/VR experiences in Microsoft HoloLens, Meta Quest 3, Blender, ZBrush and Three.js
- Lecturer and Mentor: Taught undergraduate and post-graduate students in AI, games programming (Unity 3D), Python, Java, C#/.NET, digital twins and data analytics
As the author of Wired for Innovation (available on Kindle and in paperback), Dot explores how to fuse creative problem-solving with real-world technology. When he is not coding or teaching, you will find him find him modelling 3D scenes for VR demos.
